Verification Delay Lab

Verification email missing? Narrow down the cause by elapsed time

Repeatedly clicking “Resend” usually just creates more queued emails. Note the time of your first request, then check your address, sender, delivery path, and inbox status in order.

Time window 00:00–01:00

First minute: perform only non-disruptive checks

Most verification codes are not generated instantly. The sender’s app, mail queue, and network delivery all take time. Avoid repeated requests that could invalidate an older code that is still valid.

Check

Confirm the address shown on the registration page

Compare the username, domain, and symbols character by character. Copy and paste is more reliable than typing, especially for periods, hyphens, and similar-looking letters.

Wait

Keep the original page and current inbox open

Do not switch temporary addresses or close the verification page. After 60 seconds, manually refresh the message list once.

Record

Note the time of the first send

If several messages arrive later, the timestamps can show which one matches the latest request and help you avoid entering an older, superseded code.

Time window 01:00–05:00

Resend once, then watch for symptoms

If the inbox is still empty after one minute, resend only once. Then use page messages and inbox changes to identify where the problem lies.

A

The page says the message was sent

Keep waiting and refresh. The email may still be in the sender’s queue or the receiving server’s spam-filtering process.

B

The page says you’re requesting too often

Stop clicking and wait for the cooldown to end. Frequent requests can replace newer codes with older ones and may extend the rate limit.

C

The page says the mailbox is not supported

This is usually the target website’s registration policy, not a delivery delay. For legitimate long-term use, consider a forwarding alias.

Time window 05:00+

After five minutes, treat it as a delivery failure

The benefit of waiting longer is now low. Choose the next step based on the symptom instead of repeating the same request indefinitely.

What you see Possible cause Next step
No message arrives at all Mistyped address, sender did not queue the message, or domain was rejected Return to the registration page and verify the address; request it only once more
The old code arrives, but the new one does not Messages left the queue out of order, or the new request was rate-limited Use the message with the latest timestamp; wait for the cooldown
The email arrived, but the code is invalid The old code was superseded by a new request, or the input contains spaces Request the code one last time and enter all six digits exactly
Other emails arrive normally, but one website never sends anything Sender policy or blocking of temporary domains Contact the sender’s support team; use an alias for an ongoing relationship
The inbox countdown reaches zero The address has expired Do not try to recover the old inbox; create a new address and start registration again

Security check

When a code arrives, confirm it belongs to your request

Verification emails can reveal unexpected login attempts. Check the service name, request time, and destination address before entering the digits on the original page.

Can I send the verification code to customer support?

No. Legitimate support agents do not need your login verification code. Enter the code only on the original website or app you just opened.

Why is a code that arrived later invalid?

The sending queue may deliver messages out of order. Arrival order does not necessarily match request order. Stop resending and use the code generated by your most recent request, based on the message timestamps.

Can refreshing make the email disappear?

A normal refresh only reloads the message list; it does not create a new address. Clicking “Get another one” ends the old inbox, so do not switch addresses while waiting for a code.

When should I contact the sender?

If other emails arrive normally, the address is correct, and no message from the same website arrives after more than five minutes, the problem is more likely on the sender’s side. Contact its support team.
